Creating a Cyclical Work Package in Grass SMART

KaarbonTech's Programme SMART for Grass SMART systems allows you to define your cutting programme, not by a cycle length and due date as with our Gully SMART and Tree SMART systems, but by the number of cuts required within the programme period, which are spaced out equally across the entire season.

The system works by first setting up the cutting season as the programme length. If your cutting season is between April 1st and October 31st, for example, you would define the programme to run between these dates.

By then setting the base number of cuts, the system will then divide the programme length by the number of cuts, and light the assets up for cutting accordingly. starting with the first cut on the first day of the programme.

You can also then programme subsets of the assets to have their own number of cuts, allowing you to manage multiple cut regimes in a single programme.

Creating a programme

The first stage in setting up a programme is to create a blank cyclical work package, and setting the dates of the cutting season.

From the map screen, click Work Planning in the main menu.

Click Cyclical Work.

The different programme types available are shown. Depending on the configuration of your system, you may see programmes available for any asset type.

Click the programme you wish to configure.

Click Configure assets for next programme to define which assets will be included in the new programme.

Use the filters to set which assets to include. By default only assets that are maintained by the Local Authority are included, but you can use the filters to select whichever asset are required, such as those maintained by others, or a subset of the asset types.

Once you have set the required filters, click Select.

To set the base number of cuts in the programme, click Change to…

Enter the number of cuts for the programme, and then click Apply configuration.

Click Yes.

Click OK.

Now that the base number of cuts has been set, Click New to create a new cyclical programme.

Give the programme a name.

Set the date fields as required to define your cutting season. The system will be using these dates to space out the cuts evenly.

Once the dates are set, click Save to create the programme.

Your basic programme has been configured. The system will space out all cuts equally across the set date range. Click Allocate to allow your crews to download the work to their tablets.

Programme a subset of assets

Once the base programme has been set up, you can then use the Configure assets setup again and use the filters within to modify assets within the main programme. This can be repeated for multiple subsets, allowing you to manage multiple different cut frequency regimes in a single programme.

See Programme a subset of assets in a cyclical work package for more details.
